The Phillips ROI Methodology is a training evaluation framework that extends the Kirkpatrick Model by adding a fifth level focused on measuring the financial return on investment (ROI) of learning programs. Developed by Jack J. Phillips, the model helps learning and development (L&D) teams quantify the business value of training by comparing program benefits to costs.
Here are the five levels of training evaluation:
- Level 1: The reaction of the learners to the training experience.
- Level 2: The increase in knowledge as a result of the training.
- Level 3: The applications of skills on the job.
- Level 4: The results and impact of the learners’ performance on business outcomes.
- Level 5: The financial value of a training program by comparing its monetary benefits to its total costs.
